Vintage Bottoms Up Mug 4

Yet another folky version of this vintage risqué mug from our collection. Made in post-war Japan and hand-finished, this one features a butt suspended from a stiff wire. Unlike many of these mugs, the holes for the wire on this mug are hidden.

First the good news –
this mug is in excellent condition with almost no surface crazing or cracks or paint loss. There is a very tiny chip or wear mark on the cup’s rim, but that’s about all. It has some little stains on the inside that possibly could be removed. We didn’t try. Overall very nice condition.

Now the bad news –
the butt does not swing! This may be due to an original manufacturing defect in that it doesn’t quit fit properly and there’s not enough clearance for it to sway on its wire. It’s possible that the wire has become too slack and it could be improved. We did not try to adjust it.

Buyer should be aware that, although it looks beautiful, the butt doesn’t really swing freely.

This is sold as-is. Buyer should consider this an antique for display purposes and not drink from it.  Do not microwave or put in dishwasher.
