This style of “chalkware” was popular in the ’40s to ’60s as a low cost decorative object—often as a prize at carnivals. This French bulldog may have been intended as an ashtray for cigars but it also makes a great trinket dish for jewelry and other small objects. This one is pretty large at approximately 8″ long by 6″ tall. There are a few minor bits of paint loss and some minimal surface chips here and there as is typical of old chalkware pieces. There is only one real chip (near the rear, below the tail) and it is not really visible from the front.
